If you are an open-minded person and want to make new friendships in the process, this club is for you. It is a student-driven club and we plan events throughout the school year: we are always looking for good ideas and people.

CREATIVE WRITING CLUB

LIBRARY QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“We may not have wings or leaves, but we do have words. Language is our gift and our responsibility. I've come to think of writing as an act of reciprocity with the living land. Words to remember old stories, words to tell new

ones, stories that bring science and spirit back together to nurture our becoming people made of corn."

Robin Wall Kimmerer, Monique Gray Smith, and Nicole Neidhardt, Braiding Sweetgrass for Young Adults: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants (Minneapolis, MN: Zest Books, an imprint of Lerner Publishing Group, 2022), page 264.

Commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation by reading books by Indigenous authors. Stop by the library to stock up on books or use Sora to read Indigenous stories and listen to Indigenous voices wherever you are. You can access Sora through your computer, phone, or tablet.

CST CURTI'S TIP OF THE WEEK

By request, here is this week's tip. A couple of hot topics that require a little explanation because maybe you didn't know.

Defamatory Libel

Defamation is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as “the action of impugning a person's good name or reputation".

In Canada, defamation is referred to as “defamatory libel" and is an offence under the Criminal Code.

An example of this is - posting false Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Snap Chat and Twitter posts about a person to harm their reputation.

Assault

A person commits an assault when without the consent of another person, he applies force intentionally to that other person, directly or indirectly.

Both mentioned offences are arrestable under the Criminal Code of Canada. Both have serious implications for future endeavors such as employment.

If you know you know!

Cst Tony Curti
