O.M. Irwin's Mission: “Achieving Excellence”

We are a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school with approximately 394 students and approx. 50 staff members.
The school opened in 1963 and it was named after Dr. O.M. Irwin, who was a prominent citizen and physician in
Swift Current. As a school board member, he was instrumental in establishing the
first school library in Swift Current. Dr. Irwin served as Mayor of the City and was
president of the Provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons. He was also
Honorary President of the Swift Current City Teachers' Association.
O.M. Irwin School is designed to promote intellectual, emotional, physical and
social growth according to the individual needs of each student.
The school moniker is the IRWIN ICE and is represented by a Polar Bear. The school mascot's name is Icy the Bear.
